SCM accelerates the development of advanced solutions for “batch one” edgebanding

3 Dec 2025

Strong interest and participation marked the “Batch One Days”, two days dedicated to the future of flexible production for panels and doors.
In the spotlight were SCM’s latest high-tech systems and in-depth analyses of emerging industry trends.

SCM is strengthening its position in the “batch one” edgebanding sector with concrete, high-technology projects and substantial investments in research and development. This was clear during the “Batch One Days” held on 27–28 November at SCM’s Thiene (VI) site, the Group’s industrial hub for edgebanding and squaring-edgebanding technologies.

The event focused on the new scenarios of “batch one” machining for panels and doors through the presentation of flexible industrial edgebanding solutions selected by leading global customers. Visitors—major players in the furniture and design industries from across Europe—had the opportunity to preview several next-generation systems developed for the most demanding production environments, all with a shared aim: to maximise quality, reliability, efficiency and customisation.

The event is part of a clear and strategic roadmap that also saw the introduction of advanced solutions for renowned European customers in 2024, and that will continue decisively into 2026 with new, ambitious R&D goals.

“The systems showcased, together with those presented last year, demonstrate how SCM is consolidating its focus on ‘batch size one’ production,” explains Marco Pacini, SCM Business Manager for Edgebanding. “Thanks to the technological level of our solutions, targeted R&D investments and the expertise of our team, SCM confirms itself as the go-to business partner for companies that make high flexibility and production efficiency their main strengths.

The new edgebanding cells guarantee top productivity thanks to robots and automatic buffering and panel-handling systems.

The Maestro active watch supervisor, together with the new WinMes MES software, ensures real-time control of the entire production process. The high level of technology enables unmatched machining precision and quality on all types of panels, including the most delicate and complex materials.

In particular, the cell dedicated to door production has been enhanced with new finishing units for profile changes, scoring units for cutting, trimming units for corner processing and additional sectors for radius profiles.

These innovations provide maximum operational flexibility while ensuring the highest efficiency and quality standards, both when handling different profile sizes and when machining straight or shaped doors.

From listening to tangible value: SCM’s vision for flexible production
The event clearly highlighted SCM’s approach: offering tailor-made solutions that respond to customers’ real needs, ensuring the best balance between price and solution—interpreted not only as production efficiency, but also in terms of sustainability.

Innovation is pursued in parallel on both the hardware and software fronts, starting from an in-depth understanding of customer requirements with the ultimate goal of making daily operations more agile and intuitive.

“Factory logistics, data management, material diversity… everything is becoming more complex,” Pacini continues, speaking again about flexible production. “Our solutions must make these processes smoother and more intuitive, especially in a context where skilled labour is increasingly scarce.”

With this in mind, SCM’s new machines and cells are designed to support and empower operators, reducing the need for manual intervention while ensuring repeatability and high machining quality.
“Truly effective solutions start with a deep understanding of the customer’s needs,” Pacini concludes. “This is how we continue to develop systems that combine flexibility, productivity and ease of use—essential qualities to remain competitive in today’s flexible production landscape.”
