SCM Group Oceania Summarises LIGNA 2025: Record-Breaking Interest and Technological Breakthroughs

11 Jun 2025

We are extremely pleased with the results of LIGNA 2025 in Hannover. This was the 50th edition of the exhibition, and over all these years SCM has never missed a single event - and this year was no exception.

This year, SCM Group represented across three stands totaling 3,300 m², with five specialists from SCM Group Oceania, as well as our partners and regional dealers. This ensured strong representation of the Oceania region and professional support for clients throughout the exhibition. The total number of visitors from this region was the highest in the past eight years.

A clear trend was the growing interest from companies looking for highly automated, technologically advanced solutions - not only in traditional woodworking applications. This is precisely the area where SCM has always excelled, and our goal is to deliver these cutting-edge technologies to the Oceania market.

The biggest highlight was the Tecno Logica stand - a company that joined SCM Group in 2024. The showcased conceptual edgebanding machine was the most talked about innovation of the exhibition. Drawing inspiration from automotive industry technologies, it sets a new standard in the woodworking sector by combining exceptional performance with unmatched flexibility. Even our competitors acknowledged the revolutionary efficiency of this solution. Building on this concept, we now offer not only edgebanding but also fully automated systems for drilling, hardware insertion, and cabinet assembly. Recently, we delivered the first of these lines in Europe, capable of producing an impressive 10 fully assembled cabinets per minute - entirely operator-free.

At the heart of the exhibition, we presented a flexible production line based on the "batch-one" principle, which included:

  • gabbiani a2 angular panel saw,
  • robotic unloading system,
  • in-line automatic labelling unit,
  • stefani s edgebanding line with formatting capabilities and a 24-roll edge storage,
  • new morbidelli fx100 boring and inserting center.

In the CNC machining center category, we introduced two new models. Morbidelli x50 is an entry-level nesting center that offers many of the core technological benefits found in higher-end models, but in a more compact and simplified design. It is aimed at customers seeking a cost-effective gateway into automated production, without compromising on quality, precision, or reliability. Accord 500 is a high-performance machining center built for intensive 5-axis processing of complex parts, particularly for door and window manufacturing, staircases, and customized components. Its combination of speed, structural rigidity, and application flexibility makes it ideal for medium to large manufacturers producing both custom and serial products.

In the solid wood processing segment, the topset xxl four-sided moulder drew significant attention - especially from New Zealand clients. This machine handles parts up to 320 × 200 mm, with feed speeds up to 60 m/min and spindle speeds up to 12,000 RPM. This configuration ensures exceptional surface finish and reduces the need for subsequent sanding.

Timber construction received special focus at this year's exhibition - a segment showing steady global growth with clearly positive forecasts. We introduced the new oikos xs CNC center for glued laminated timber, complementing the existing oikos product line. Without exaggeration, SCM reaffirmed its leadership in this area, with an incredible number of inquiries from around the world. The more complex and flexible the project requirements, the more competitive advantages the new oikos generation provides.

SCM Group’s presence at LIGNA 2025 highlighted the power of digital connectivity in shaping the future of woodworking. Demonstrating the next evolution in smart manufacturing, SCM revealed how real-time data collection and analysis can drive proactive support, reduce downtime, and boost overall productivity. These capabilities enable a seamless production flow, allowing issues to be identified and addressed before they impact operations. Among the key innovations was the new MyPortal platform, offering intuitive access to machine monitoring, energy consumption tracking, and service management. Additional highlights included Smart Spindle technology for predictive tool diagnostics, specialized cybersecurity solutions, and a Solutions Library built on SCM’s deep technical expertise. A new technical training portal also supports faster onboarding through e-learning and digital twin experiences. Together, these tools form part of SCM’s modular and customizable digital service bundles, designed to support customers through every stage of production.

In the classic solutions segment, we presented the updated Blade Off automatic safety system for panel saws - the most effective on the market. It ensures maximum protection through patented sensors capable of detecting the presence of living tissue (e.g. operator's hand) in the cutting area.

At specialized Hall 16, we showcased our finishing solutions—sanding, coating, and laser texturing—under the superfici and dmc brands. A standout was the innovative dmc laser system, which delivers striking decorative effects across various materials—wood, plywood, glass, and ceramics. We also introduced the new spray mini plus, tailored for small to mid‑sized companies needing a fast colour‑change system.

LIGNA 2025 served as a vital platform: reaffirming leadership, accelerating innovation, and strengthening collaboration with our clients in the Oceania region. We’d like to take this opportunity to invite all our customers to attend our Innovation Days — taking place on the 18th & 19th of June in Melbourne, and in Sydney on the 3rd, 4th & 5th of September.
