Off-site architecture: an SCM lesson for students at the Politecnico di Torino

14 Dec 2020

The cooperation between SCM and the Politecnico di Torino continues on highly topical matters like timber constructions and sustainable building. On 24 November, about sixty students from the "Technological Innovation in the off-site architecture project” in the Master's Degree in Urban Construction Architecture run by Prof. Guido Callegari in collaboration with Prof. Paolo Simeone, had the opportunity to attend a special on-line lesson with SCM experts to take a closer look at the matter of machining with numeric control machining centres as a prefabrication tool.

In fact, off-site architecture and the prefabrication of buildings is expanding vastly at international level, particularly in Europe, and with so much common ground with "made in SCM" technological innovation. After the introductions by Gian Luca Fariselli, Scm Group's Communications Director, and Federico Ratti, Innovations Director, Tommaso Martini, SCM BU Manager for cnc Machining centres for timber construction, the spotlight was turned on the options offered in the numeric control 5-axis machining centres sector, analysing applications developed by SCM for the production of innovative elements.

The students also had a chance to follow a live demonstration session from the Technology Center in Rimini and the Sinalunga (SI) plant, the Group's production benchmark for timber construction technologies.

For SCM and the Architects at the Politecnico di Torino, it was a valuable opportunity to interact with one another in an area destined to make a considerable impact on the future of building. Once again, the world of education and business have come together to enhance the skills and know-how of tomorrow's specialists, in perfect harmony with the new demands from the market and the world of employment.
