Timeless comfort, drawn from the best of nature

  • Timber construction technologies
From a small carpentry workshop to a company specialized in roofing, structures, and prefabricated residential and tourist buildings. The story of Kastrevec Carpentry tells of a Slovenian family that has been working wood with passion and deep craftsmanship for over thirty years, without ever being afraid to embrace new challenges.

Is it possible to evolve while remaining faithful to the most traditional woodworking techniques? The story of the Slovenian carpentry company Kastrevec leaves no doubt.
Specialized in tourist facilities such as terraces, bungalows, and summer residences—strictly made of wood—this dynamic company builds structures not only in Slovenia, but across several European countries, including Croatia, Austria, Hungary, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, France, and Denmark.

We meet Slavko Kastrevec at his carpentry workshop in Novo Mesto during the open house organized by SCM in October 2025, an event aimed at showcasing to companies and professionals in timber construction a flagship solution for the sector: the CNC machining centre “oikos x”.
It was Mr. Slavko himself who founded the family business when he was still working as a carpenter, using the most traditional techniques. By his side today is his son Rok Kastrevec, who has literally transformed the company, recognizing the extraordinary potential of the timber construction supply chain and purchasing the first machine capable of opening up new business opportunities for the carpentry workshop.

“I started very young, in 1992, launching the business with carpentry work and the first roofs and trusses,” recalls the founder. “Over time, we have steadily expanded our range of projects. I was the first of my generation to go into business for myself, so I practically started from scratch. We have always kept pace with technological progress, market evolution, and construction techniques.”
It meant riding the wave of a rapidly growing business—also in the Balkans—and understanding how to combine innovative processes with the artisanal skills and methodologies developed over decades.

“We are aware of how important it is to evolve,” continues Slavko Kastrevec. “This commitment to adopting new technologies has allowed us to simplify processes, increase efficiency, and offer our customers even greater production flexibility. We believe that by combining the best traditional and modern methods, we can continue to produce top-quality wooden structures, fully meeting the needs of both customers and the market.”

Growth and entry into new markets with SCM

The purchase of the “oikos x” machining centre marked their entry into new business segments within the timber construction world. Today, Kastrevec manufactures and supplies timber-frame houses and many other structures throughout Europe. The carpentry workshop has also launched a collaboration with Adria Home, for which it still produces terraces and pergolas—an initiative that has helped the company acquire new international customers.

“When we decided to purchase a CNC machine for timber construction, we studied the market to identify the solution best suited to our needs. We had the opportunity to see the ‘oikos x’ in operation at an SCM customer’s site and were immediately impressed by its ability to perform a wide range of operations. Its solid mechanical structure and the levels of quality and flexibility in cross-sections and lengths immediately inspired confidence. Today, with this solution, we achieve the maximum versatility we were looking for. Moreover, the support is excellent: in the event of machine downtime, programming issues, or any other need, we are always pleasantly surprised by how quickly problems are resolved.”

His son Rok adds: “What impressed us most about SCM was their ability to listen to our needs and our ideas on how the machine would be used. This approach played a decisive role in the final choice of the ‘oikos x’.”

According to Rok Kastrevec, the advantages of this 6-axis machining centre are virtually limitless. “With this machine, we constantly discover new production possibilities, thanks to its design, which allows machining from all angles. Moreover, it has made us independent and able to take on completely new challenges.”

Confident in being stronger and more competitive, and with a machine like the “oikos x” as an ally, Slavko and Rok Kastrevec will continue to invest to keep pace with the evolution of the sector.
