Huge interest in Australia for the "made in Italy" solar cruiser

23 Oct 2019

The Solar Wave (Onda Solare) team and the "made in Italy" Emilia 4 LT cruiser came out of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge. Over 3,000 km of Australian desert, crossing the country from North to South, more than half of the 47 vehicles in the competition were forced to stop due to excessive heat and the average high speed imposed by the strict competition rules. It is, after all, the most famous solar powered vehicle competition in the world, and it was a source of pride for the Solar Wave team from Bologna University, backed by the Scm Group and Cms Advanced Materials, to have stayed in the competition. The scrutineering stage was fairly arduous but the "made in Italy" car proved its high tech worth, managing to overcome even the most difficult tests on the road.

The vehicle's elegant lines, its sought-after design and unmistakeable "long tail", a distinctive trait on the new Emilia 4 LT model, clocked up compliments from most of the World Solar Challenge crowd, as well as from numerous other teams in the competition. One of the most satisfying moments was the final parade through the streets of Adelaide on 20 October and the handover of the Wilson Cup, awarded to the winners of the American Solar Challenge 2018, from the Western Sydney Solar Team, that took first place in the "challenger" category, to the Solar Wave Team that winner in the "cruiser" class. Now the prestigious cup will remain in Italy until the end of June 2020.

Tens of thousands of working hours and tens of millions of Euros for solar powered car projects: Emilia 4 LT is the result of intense research work on highly innovative solutions for a sustainable mobility. Boosted by the incredible experience gained with our Cms Advanced Materials brand in the development of state-of-the-art technological solutions for the car, we are proud to support this 100% Italian R&D challenge.
