Bespoke Brilliance with a Custom SCM Machine

Since his early years as an apprentice carpenter, Dante Stivanello has come to value the simplicity and integrity of well made pieces that will stand the test of time. Now the owner of Stivanello Bespoke, Dante prides his company on providing individually handcrafted fine furniture with the best quality materials, craftsmanship and service.

Being able to offer this approach to his custom designs requires the right machinery for the job. After carefully considering alternate options available on the market, Dante purchased two joinery machines from SCM Australia.

“I am extremely impressed with the power and ease of use of the S400 Professional Bandsaw,” said Dante. “I have used the S400P for re-sawing fine 1mm thick veneers from solid timber as well as accurate joinery work. The S400P handles all tasks I ask of it with speed, efficiency and accuracy.”

Critical to a workshop with limited space like Stivanello Bespoke, the S400P has a small footprint, a single-phase motor with 4hp and 400mm of re-saw capacity plus a solid cast iron fence, allowing it to perform just as well as a much larger machine.

“The mobility kit gives me the ability to move the S400P around my workshop when I need to cut longer boards. I would recommend this bandsaw to any professional or skilled woodworker looking for a small footprint yet highly capable bandsaw.”

To complement the S400P, Dante also installed a made-to-order FS14 Elite Jointer Planer.

“The FS 41E has exceeded my expectations in both performance and accuracy,” said Dante. “I primarily work with solid timber so the jointer planer is the most important machine in my workshop when processing new timber stock from my supplier. The speed and accuracy of the FS 41E is excellent.”

Stivanello Bespoke’s FS 41E was custom built by SCM to include Xylent cutterblocks and a digital counter on the planer wheel. Xylent’s quiet operation produces a high quality finish on difficult interlocking grain hardwoods, and the digital counter allows planing thickness to be controlled to tolerances of less than 0.1mm.

“The fence on the FS 41E is excellent with the position of the adjusting/support arm right beside the cutterblock, meaning no movement of the fence whilst jointing stock. Conversion between jointing and thickness planing is done in less than 60 seconds,” said Dante. “The mobility kit allows one person to move the 400kg machine around the workshop easily, which is important when processing long boards. The single phase 5hp motor is more than powerful enough for all hardwoods.”

“You can tell when using this machine that it has been built in Italy with skill and pride. My business has only benefitted from purchasing these machines,” said Dante. “I am proud to work with and own Italian-made SCM machinery and as a result will be purchasing a SCM Panel saw in the near future.”
