In 2025, for the third consecutive year, Scm Group was among the Italian companies with the highest number of patent applications filed with the European Patent Office (EPO).
Data from the EPO Technology Dashboard places Scm Group in ninth position in the ranking, with 23 patent applications, all related to SCM woodworking machinery. These applications correspond to first filings made in 2024, which will be extended to Europe in 2025.
This represents the highest result achieved by an Italian company in the woodworking technology sector, and Scm Group is the only company in this sector included in the top ten.
Furthermore, the data includes only a portion of the patent applications filed by Scm Group in the same year. When considering the other companies in the group—CMS (7 applications), Tecno Logica (3), and Hiteco (2)—the total rises to 35 patent applications. This figure would place Scm Group sixth in the ranking.
SCM files an average of 45–50 new patent applications each year, and currently holds over 1,100 active patents, including approximately 800 in the Wood Division.
This result further confirms the ongoing commitment of Scm Group and its subsidiaries to innovation, with the aim of offering customers increasingly advanced solutions in highly competitive and constantly evolving sectors.
The key areas covered by these patents reflect the strategic directions of Scm Group’s innovation roadmap: simplification of machine use, including through artificial intelligence; sustainability and resource optimization; advanced operator safety; and process automation to increase efficiency and productivity.
