Researching together: Scm Group at MIT

Dec 21, 2018

Scm Group is at MIT in Boston to evaluate interesting R&D collaboration opportunities with one of the world’s most avant-garde universities in terms of research and development.

Earlier in the month on December 13th, the Group's Innovation Director, Federico Ratti, and the Country Manager of Scm North America, Giuseppe Riva, met Brian Anthony, Faculty Lead, and Theresa Werth, MechE Alliance Program Manager from the Mechanical Engineering Department, in view of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s next Industry Immersion Program 2019. This initiative will select, among hundreds of corporate projects coming from all over the world, those that are closer to the objectives of MIT’s undergraduates and researchers. This is just one of the numerous and important research and development activities that see MIT playing a frontline role in supporting industry, involving students ready to collaborate directly from MIT or “in loco” with companies participating in the program. A large university (about 2,000 professors and assistants and over 11,000 students in the last academic year, of which 470 coming from other countries) which, thanks to targeted programs, has encouraged the creation of over 1700 start-ups.

For Scm Group, which has always paid great attention to innovation, investing 7% of its turnover in R&D activities each year, the visit to the prestigious American university was also a golden opportunity to identify the best ways to learn about start-ups connected to MIT and specialized in the fields of Design and Manufacturing. Furthermore, the huge potential of the Mechatronics Laboratory and the one dedicated to the manufacturing of components was studied in depth.
